Bouldering Wall Policy

Obtaining Access

In order to use the bouldering wall, you will need to:

  1. Be a full-time UW student.

  2. Get a membership to the Outers Club. The cost of membership to the Outers Club is $7 per term. Memberships can be obtained at the Outers Club Equipment Room, in PAC 2010, Tuesday or Thursday from 4:30-5:30 pm.

Join the wall of fame: Instead of paying for the Outers Club card, you can donate a hold (of approximate value $10-15), and engrave your name on it, leaving your mark on the wall. We recommend medium or large holds manufactured by ``Franklin''. These can be purchased at Adventure Guide, or the Mountain Equipment Co-op. If you would like to join the wall of fame, contact the club to arrange for engraving the hold.

Access Policies and Conditions

To gain access to the bouldering wall, hand in your bouldering card and your watcard at the PAC Equipment Room desk to obtain the key to the bouldering room (located in Court 1). While you are the key-holder, you are responsible for ensuring that everyone who arrives to use the bouldering wall has a valid bouldering card. Take this responsibility seriously; if the key-holder is found allowing people to use the bouldering wall without having a valid bouldering card, his/her bouldering privileges will be revoked.

When you sign out the key to the bouldering wall, sign your name in the key-holder log. There will also be a sign-in/sign-out sheet in the bouldering room that everyone must sign on entering and leaving. If the key-holder leaves while people are still using the wall, one of the users must hand in their bouldering card in exchange for the key, and sign the key log. Otherwise, when the key holder leaves the room, she/he should lock the door.

Footwear

Climbing shoes or clean court shoes are appropriate footwear for use on the bouldering wall. Please do not walk on the mats or boulder with inappropriate footwear.

Simultaneous User Limits

Each of the two bouldering walls are designed to hold the weight of up to three people; thus no more than three people should be on either wall at one time. We also ask that no more than ten people be in the bouldering room at one time. The key-holder should ensure that these limits are respected.
